Wine makers and drinkers wind back the clock with ancient techniques using clay cups
When you have a wine at Kelly and Paolo Picarazzi's Italian restaurant, it won't be served in a wine glass but rather a hand-made ceramic cup.
It's an unusual sight in Australia, but Mr Picarazzi says many people still drink wine from terracotta where he comes from, a region in central Italy called Ciociaria.
Mr Picarazzi said people in his home region were trying to revive the ancient method, so he wanted to bring that to his restaurant in Carcoar in the central west of New South Wales.
"[The practice is] very old, many people believe the wine tastes better because the terracotta comes from the ground and they believe this makes the wine taste better."
